Outside showers. We highly recommend them, even in Outside showers. We highly recommend them, even in our cold months. This evenings view from the outside shower at tented chalet 5 was quite amazing. There are also indoor ones of course. Luckily. Not because of the cold (there isn't much difference at this time of year!), but because of elephants! 🐘🐘🐘

Standing on rocks and talking about our incredible Standing on rocks and talking about our incredible landscape. Always a pleasure to have @nature_africa back. Hopefully their increasing involvement in the GMAs can help reverse the ongoing destruction and deforestation which is affecting the whole country. With their involvement in the GMAs and @africanparksnetwork in the park there is the potential for transformation. But that clock won't stop ticking. The time for talk is over.
"The huge sweeping vistas, wide open grasslands an "The huge sweeping vistas, wide open grasslands and herds of wildebeest made for scenes more like East Africa than the more wooded parks of Zambia.  The sense of space and sky is unmatched by any other National Park in the country.  You can drive out in the grasslands and suddenly realise that you see nothing but open space – not a tree or a feature other than rolling grass and the soaring sky".

I was asked by @discoverzambia to do a blog post on travel anywhere in Zambia. It was always going to be the Kafue or Liuwa. Okay, East Park Mall was also high up on the list 😂. Link to the piece is in our Bio.

3 Images of Rho Ophiuchi.  One of the best named and most colourful regions of the night sky.  Located at the top of the constellation Scorpius. 🦂 This series of three images captured at various focal lengths attempts to show the scale and beauty of the top of the Scorpion.  In the first super wide image at 20mm focal length you can see the colourful area of Rho rising to the left of the Euphorbia plants.  Clearly visible are the dust lanes that tower out from the Milky Way towards Rho, giving added drama.

Then we punch into 135mm focal length and now we start to see more details. At the top of the second image the three bright stars Acrab, Dschubba and Pi Scorpii form the top of the scorpion’s pincers.  Moving down there is Antares – the red super giant star illuminating billowing yellowish/orange areas as well as reddish hydrogen areas.  The blue reflection nebula called the Rho nebula is also visible off to the left of Antares.  Māori celestial beliefs held that Antares was “Rehua” and was paramount chief of the heavens.

For the third image we head into an equivalent 486mm focal length.  So now we are quite deep.  And real details can be seen.  Antares is clearly a massive star – 700 times bigger than our own sun. Inconceivably large.  If our sun was a penny on a tennis court, then Antares would cover the entire court.  Above Antares the M4 star cluster can clearly discerned to be a group of individual stars – over 100,000 of them.  Above and to the left of Antares another (smaller) star cluster can be seen – NGC 6144.  Towards the top of the frame, we can see the star Alniyat irradiating hydrogen clouds to produce the spectacular red glow.  And then off towards the left of the frame there are the beautiful blue clouds of the reflection nebula Rho where rather than gas glowing due to radiation it is starlight illuminating dust.  And streaking into the image in the left-hand corner are the dust lanes or dark nebula, where dust is blocking all starlight behind them and creating darkness.
