Accommodation in Zambia at KaingU Safari Lodge
BE A GUEST AT KAINGU SAFARI LODGE
KaingU offers idyllic & comfortable guest accommodation nestled amongst trees directly on the Kafue river, Namwala GMA, bordering the Kafue National Park.
Separate from the lodge, Kaingu offers three private and individual campsites for guests who seek to be even closer to nature.
Kaingu is built with minimal impact to the environment and run by the owners in an eco and socially sustainable manner.
KaingU Lodge Main Area
The focal point of the lodge is the thatched central area with a lounge, dining area and bar. Attached to it is a locally sourced redwood deck built over the river and under the forest canopy.
This area provides guests with a beautiful and serene setting for dining, sundowners or just relaxing with a book and has an all-day tea & coffee station. At night a fire is lit in the purpose-built pit on the deck. Solar-lit paths provide easy access between the chalets and the central area.
A curio shop is next to the main area, and wifi is available in the central public areas.
KaingU Lodge
6 Tented chalets (2x double, 4x twin; all en-suite)
1 Family house (1x room double, 1x room twin; all en-suite; extra beds available)
3 Tonga Tree Baskets
Set on raised individual private wooden decks, each overlooking the Kafue River, KaingU Safari Lodge comprises 6 double Meru-style tents with en-suite bathrooms, indoor showers and an open-air shower. The “Honeymoon-tent” has an additional outside bath. Every tent is additionally roofed with thatch to provide extra shade and further blend into nature.
Our Finfoot family house consists of 2 bedrooms (one queen, one twin), 2 en-suite bathrooms plus an outside shower and a central living area opening onto a private deck overlooking the river. It’s a perfect spot for a couple with children or a small group of friends.
All accommodation has gauze screen doors and windows and mosquito netting over the beds. The two bedside lights and bathroom lights are solar powered, as are the other lodge facilities. Plugs can be found in the central area of the lodge for charging electronic devices.
Water is heated by individual gas / solar geysers. A flask with filtered drinking water is provided, and filtered water is always available. Bottled water is also available from the bar, but for ecological reasons, we encourage the use of reusable bottles and filtration.

Tonga Tree Basket
Constructed from local Muchinga, our Tonga-treebaskets provide a unique and secure night under the stars close to nature.
Seasonally set in trees at stunning river locations, you fall asleep and wake up to the relaxing sounds of the Kafue. Enjoy a night out individually or with your guide, or with your group of up to six. To answer everyone’s first question, besides the bucket ‘bathroom’, there is an ash-pit drum toilet.
KaingU Private Campsites
Camping at Kaingu in Zambia
Kaingu has three fully private campsites. When we say ‘private’, what we mean is that each pitch has its own shower and toilet block as well as washing-up areas and a thatched shelter. Hot water is supplied from donkey boilers, and a campsite attendant looks after the hot water, supplies firewood and removes rubbish. Firewood is included in the daily rate. None of our campsites contains power hook-ups.
Rapids sites 1 and 2 are located immediately downstream from the lodge, just as the Kafue starts to tumble over the rapids (which are a short walk from the sites). A footpath leads up to the lodge. The two sites are adjacent but completely private from each other.
Chief’s campsite is located considerably further away from the lodge. It is situated below the rapids. It is a 650m walk from the campsite to the lodge. It is highly secluded and very romantic.
All the sites share incredible river views and fresh green grass. All three sites have ample shade at all times of the day.
